Followers of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky have staged the peaceful protest to mark 3 years of Zaria massacre and El-Zakzaky’s “unlawful detention” by the Nigerian authorities.
The protesters transported placards and stormed the federal government secretariat in Abuja on Wed, chanting anti-government songs and challenging the release of their spiritual leader, that has been in custody since December 2015.
Addressing the protesters, Abdullahi Musa, Secretary of the Educational Forum of Islamic Movement within Nigeria (IMN), said El-Zakzaky has been kept in detention for “no just cause”.
Their words: “On 12 December, 2015, a planned and systematic assault on Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky premiered by the Nigerian Army under a scam of road blockage. The strike lasted for more than 48 hrs and led to the killing greater than 1, 000 people, including ladies and children. Those killed during the assault include sons of Sheikh Zakzaky namely, Ali, Hamid and Humaid. After the attack, the Buhari-led management detained the Sheikh without proper health care.
“The attack began when soldiers of the Nigerian Military were stationed directly opposite Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah Centre (where teaching periods and other activities are held) situated along Sokoto road, adjacent to polo pitch, Zaria, Kaduna State. Upon that day, the followers associated with Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky were to memorialize the arrival of Rabiul Awwal, the birth month of the Ay Prophet Muhammad (SAWA). ”
According to Musa, the troops burnt many people alive, including a good elder sister to Sheikh Zakzaky. He also accused the Nigerian Army of conducting a “secret mass burial of the victims in a site in Mando Kaduna”.
He continued: “Three yrs after the Zaria massacre and inspite of the recommendation made by the report from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) of July 2016 for the criminal prosecution of the perpetrators of the Zaria massacre, the Nigerian government under Buhari is yet to prosecute the particular perpetrators of these great atrocities.
“In fact, instead of prosecuting the perpetrators, Tyrant Buhari ongoing to give orders for further killing from the followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. The recent killing is the strike made by the Military and Nigerian Police during the annual Arbaeen Representational Trek between 27th and thirtieth October, 2018 where more than fifty followers of Sheikh Zakzaky had been killed in Abuja. ”
He, however , stated which the group would not relent in its need for the unconditional release of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife.
