FG, not UCH owes outsourced staff N15bn – CMD

The Chief Medical Movie director (CMD) of the University College Medical center, Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge upon Thursday declared that the Federal Government associated with Nigeria was owing outsourced staff working in the teaching hospitals, which includes UCH, LUTH and others about N15billion.

A group, Concerned Residents for Human Rights (CCHR) acquired raised the alarm that the UCH management was owing the impacted workers 30-month arrears of wages.

The group, in a three-page petition written to the Minister associated with Health, Professor Isaac Adewole simply by its Convener, Comrade Mojeed Olalere, alleged that the unhealthy treatment getting meted to UCH outsourced workers when “ Lagos State Training Hospital and Kwara state version did not owe their contractors with this category. ”

Your rights activist in the letter titled, “ Save the soul associated with UCH contractors and their employees from outstanding 30 months salary”, said the contractors who were confirmed and numbering 22, were regretting ever accepting to work for the medical center because of the experience of the last 30months.

He said, “ Several workers of the contractors in UCH came to our office and lamented that they are living in abject poverty because of inability of the hospital to pay their own salaries of 30months.

“ Some of them had already died due to sickness when there was necessary for treatment. About seven days ago, one of the security guards had been macheted to death by a few armed robbers that invaded UCH, and nothing was done in order to his family up till now”.

But , the UCH CMD, Professor Temitope Alonge, whilst reacting to the allegations, said the us government had promised to pay them which a letter to that effect had been out.

Alonge managed that “ In 2007, the us government outsourced services to the affected individuals and it also agreed to undertake their payment.

“ The coordinators from the affected people have been asked in order to leave their account details. Since at last meeting in Abuja, all of us learnt the total money owed the worried staffers in Ibadan and other training hospitals, including Lagos are more than N15billion and the government was prepared to pay one third of it. The government desires to release them in quantum, ” Alonge disclosed.

Alonge added that, “ Before the creation of Treasury Single Account (TSA), all of us didn’ t encounter this kind of issue. Anyway, everybody that has been listed can get their pay. They were outsourced plus government was supposed to pay all of them and it was ready to do so”.
